When we are in a city for over a week and no more than a month then I think it is best to hire things like a car seat/capsule, baby bath (if you don't have the one suggested in my equipment page), maybe a baby bouncer &/or play gym? I like to get something different than I have at home then it keeps everyone from from getting bored! It is also a chance to hire something (like an exersaucer - awesome!) that you may not want to buy for home due to it being a bit silly and impractical!
Keep in mind though that if you are in the UK you can fit most strollers (we have a bugaboo bee) in a black cab so you may not need a baby capsule - we hired one for a month and only used it once!

Melbourne: Hire for Baby We live in Melbourne but we decided to hire a baby capsule for the second car for three months instead of buying one before we went away. I also hired a Tens machine from there for the birth (which was great - totes recommend). They are in the inner west (rocking) and installed the car seat and were very helpful. They are a family run business also which I like.
Edinburgh: Busy Bee Babies
This is run by a lovely Kiwi lady who now lives in Edinburgh. She delivers to your hotel and she has nice, clean equipment.
